Biography:
American tenor Michael Boley has emerged as one of the exceptional young talents currently climbing the operatic ranks. A native of Ohio, Michael began his career in Columbus, Ohio, with the Opera Columbus. There Mr. Boley appeared in productions of La Bohéme, Aida, Rigoletto, Tosca, Carmen, Don Giovanni, Die Zauberflöte, and Susannah, among others. Of his Columbus opera performances, the Columbus Dispatch extolled, “tenor Michael Boley sings with operatic power and resonance—a true find.”
An exponent of the romantic Italian and French repertoire, recent performance highlights for Mr. Boley include Rodolfo in La Bohéme, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, and the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto. This season, with the Dicapo Opera in New York City he created a significant impression with his performances in La Fanciulla del West. Reviewing his performance in La Fanciulla del West, the Cape Cod times was effusive in praise of his craft, “Outstanding among these, was tenor Michael Boley. Boley’s firm ringing tenor and suave stage demeanor augurs well for a rewarding career in opera.” Further successes for the tenor include his turn as the Chevalier de Danceny in Susa’s The Dangerous Liaisons, and the title role in Giannini’s Beauty and the Beast for which the New York Times noticed, "Michael Boley, a tenor, sang the Beast ardently..."
Upcoming engagements for the tenor include his first Calaf in Turandot, Tobias Picker’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and principal assignments in The Crucible, a production that will tour to Hungary for an international festival with performances to be telecast on MEZZO television.
Michael holds a B. A. in vocal performance from the College of Wooster and an M.M. in vocal performance from the University of Akron. He currently resides in New York City.
